Looking Forward

Looking Forward

After careful listening and planning we begin to address some of our Strategic Community Impact Plan goals along with recommendations of the year-long Board of Trustees Duke and Durham Today and Tomorrow Strategic Task Force in the coming years, including:

  • A working group convened by Duke Civic Engagement to refine plans for a center for community engagement. Members of the working group will include faculty, students, staff and community partners.
  • Partnering to implement strategies from the Neighborhood Identified Action Plan to nurture collaborations, interests, and overall vision of the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership (DDNP).
  • Assembling a strategic council on early childhood education utilizing Durham’s Early Childhood Action Plan, and investing further in the Duke Jumpstart pre-school literacy program.
  • Development of The Partnership Platform that maps, matches and documents impact of community engagements.
  • Establishing a food security infrastructure leveraging Duke Health, Duke University, and community partners that includes a strategic council and metrics designed to optimize impact.

Focused Engagement

Duke will continue to engage the community broadly but will coordinate efforts for purposeful partnerships in these key focus areas. The focus areas are community-informed and also represent topics for which Duke can coordinate resources across the university and health system in partnership with the community for impact.
